Will So Danca’s New Elektra Model Be A Hit Or Miss?

So Danca Elektra

It must be difficult to invent new pointe shoe models. You have to come up with a design that is 100% performance-friendly and functional, yet offers some unique feature that makes them stand out from the hundreds already on the market. The brand new Elektra model by So Danca has taken the idea of sleek aesthetics to a very serious level. However, the design can make you wonder if a pointe shoe can be too sleek to work.

The Elektra:   Constructed With A Minimalist Approach

The Elektra is a pointe shoe design that is taking a gamble in the ballet world. The adjustment and shaping components that many pointe students are used to have been removed to give the shoe a smooth, unbroken line from the outside. There are :

  1. No seams anywhere on the shoe.
  2.  No drawstrings in casings with reinforced stitching around the top.

To their credit, So Danca has constructed the Elektra with a unique elastic casing inside the shoe. This leaves the outer edges flat and bulk-free. According to the details mentioned on the Elektra debut page, the model also offers interchangeable shanks, heat molding capabilities, and ready-to-wear flexibility.

If you are familiar with the So Danca pointe shoe collection, this is a very different shoe idea compared to their traditional models.

  1. Very interested, but since I don’t see a price range anywhere on the internet, I worry that it is out of reach. Does anyone know the price range?

  2. I agree that it is almost impossible to find a price online. I did find a listed price of $140.00 on this site:

I find it interesting that several dance supply companies stated that the shoes cannot be purchased online, only in person. I don’t know if this rule was made by So Danca.

  3. I have been following the fittings and such, and these shoes LOOK interesting but you really do need a personal fitting the way SoDanca insists. The options are varied, and honestly, I don’t think the shoes look as good on people as they do in the advertising.

  4. Tried the shoes and although the concept is good they’ve missed the mark. You have to heat up the interchangeable shank with hot water and the shoe once fitted is baggy doesn’t look anything like the promo photo. The promo photo is photoshot

We purchased these for $150 dollars. In my opinion, don’t do it. My daughter was professionally fitted. They put her in these shoes and kept saying how great she looked in them. When I asked why she wasn’t getting all the way on the box they said the shank needed to be molded. When I asked why the shoe was bagging on the sides they said an elastic ring would fix that problem. Looked nothing like the promo photo. I purchased everything and none of the problems were fixed. Unfortunately they won’t exchange them even though they were only tried on.

  6. I got a pair on eBay! Interesting, but no way like the photos. Super high vamp, huge platform, very cut down sides and heel.
